| Many of the Alliance’s accomplishments are things you don’t see in Jackson Hole today: |
A water slide amusement park across from the National Elk Refuge |
A subdivision in Bridger-Teton National Forest at Mosquito Creek |
Big-box chain stores in the valley’s scenic hayfields |
A city-sized airport in Grand Teton National Park |
Oil and gas development on
hundreds of thousands of acres of
Bridger-Teton National Forest |
A Snake River Dam that would have flooded Grand Teton National Park’s Oxbow Bend |
| However, some of our accomplishments are visible: |
Healthy Rivers
With kayakers, rafters, anglers and other conservation groups, the Alliance launched a Wild and Scenic Rivers campaign to protect the Snake River and its headwaters |
Smart Growth
The Alliance advocated for smart growth principles for a development proposal at Teton Village, which resulted in the preservation of 1,300 acres of open space |
Plutonium-Free Powder
The Conservation Alliance helped stop a proposed nuclear waste incinerator 100 miles from Jackson Hole |
Wildlife Habitat
We successfully encouraged the Park Service to re-think plans for developing the wildlife-sensitive McCollister site in Grand Teton National Park |
Open Fields
We formed a coalition that reversed a Town Council decision to allow annexation and development of the 822-acre Porter Estate south of town |
Promoting Energy Efficiency
Conservation Alliance staff, board and volunteers have raffled two hybrid gas-electric cars |
Rosie’s Ridge
We joined with concerned residents to save miles of pristine forest and wetlands from the impacts of new highway construction near Togwotee Pass and the Buffalo Fork River |
Wildlife
The Alliance helped return the wolf to the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, and continues to work with other conservation groups to ensure protection of this and other species |
